Site Testing Database

download database_1996-2001.ascii

Much of the NRAO/Chajnantor site testing data for the six year period 1996 - 2001 have been reduced and aligned into a single 4.2 MByte ascii file. There are 12 columns in the ascii table. The first seven columns are a highly redundant system of specifying what time it is (four digit year, month, day, hour, fractional day since Jan 1 1995, fractional day since Jan 1 of the current year, and fractional day since the beginning of ther month). The next columns contain opacity determined by the 225 GHz radiometer, the rms phase [deg] observed by the 300 m baseline 11.2 GHz phase monitor, the exponent of the root structure function (alpha), the interferometer's temporal structure function's value [deg] at 1 second, and the surface wind velocity.

The data reported here are the one hour median values. When no value was available for a particular hour but data were present in the preceeding and following hour, we interpolated. When no data is available, we have included "-9999" for the values. It is easy to create a more complete, though also more fictionalized version of this dataset by also interpolating for missing data at a given hour between adjacent days, or for a given hour and day between years. If a need for such data products arrises, I can supply them.

The data for any leap days was ignored, as that broke the assumption of a uniform multi-dimensional array. If there is a need for the data from leap days, I'll go and get it.

This database is required for the calculation of the stringency.
